Cover Supervisor

Description

Are you looking for a rewarding role working with secondary school students, but don’t necessarily want the responsibility of planning and delivering your own lessons?

Educate Group are currently recruiting Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools across Shrewsbury and the surrounding areas, covering a range of subjects including English, Maths, Science, Humanities, PE, MFL, Computing, Art, DT and more.

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced education professionals, graduates and those looking to gain valuable experience within a secondary school environment.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you’ll be responsible for supervising students during lessons when their usual teacher is unavailable.

You may be covering a variety of subjects throughout the school day, following lesson plans and ensuring students remain engaged and on task.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supervising classes across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
  • Delivering pre-prepared lesson materials and activities
  • Maintaining a positive and purposeful learning environment
  • Managing classroom behaviour confidently and consistently
  • Supporting students with their work where appropriate
  • Taking registers and following school procedures
  • Providing feedback to teaching staff following lessons
  • Ensuring safeguarding and school policies are followed
  • Adapting to different classes, subjects and school environments

Subjects

Cover Supervisors may be required to cover a wide range of subjects, so you don’t necessarily need to be a specialist in every subject you cover.

We regularly look for candidates who are confident supporting subjects such as:

English | Maths | Science | History | Geography | PE | MFL | Computing | Art | Design Technology | RE | PSHE | Business Studies

Your own subject knowledge and experience will be taken into consideration when matching you with suitable schools and assignments.

Who are we looking for?

We’re keen to hear from candidates who:

  • Have experience working with young people aged 11–16
  • Have experience in a school, college, youth or education setting
  • Are confident managing a classroom
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Can build positive relationships with students
  • Are reliable, adaptable and professional
  • Have a genuine interest in supporting young people
  • Can confidently follow lesson plans and school instructions

Graduates, teaching assistants, aspiring teachers and experienced education professionals are all encouraged to apply.

An Enhanced DBS is required for work in schools, or you must be willing to obtain one.

Looking for something more permanent?

Supply work can be a great way to experience different schools before deciding where you’d like to work longer term.

For candidates looking for a permanent opportunity, some of our Cover Supervisor assignments can lead to a permanent position through a temp-to-perm route.
