Initial Teacher Training

We understand the journey.

Our Vision.

Through a well-sequenced, coherent, research-informed ITT curriculum, and a team of Teacher Educators who model expert practice across subject and phase, Educate trainees develop the knowledge and skills for teaching their phase and subject. They are equipped to meet the Teachers’ Standards, embark on a path of continual improvement into their ECT years and beyond, and deliver high-quality teaching for all pupils.

About Us.

Educate Group Initial Teacher Training (ITT) is a national School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provider with a long-standing reputation for preparing outstanding teachers since 1997. We deliver Primary and Secondary QTS with PGCE, through strong partnerships with schools across the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, Lincolnshire, Shropshire, Leicestershire and the East Midlands. Our approach combines extensive classroom experience with expert training in pedagogy, curriculum and professional practice. As part of the wider Educate Group, including children’s care, Alternative Provision and education recruitment, we support young people and educators across the sector.

Why choose to train with Educate?
Our trainees benefit from the support of a small, experienced core team alongside specialist Tutors and Visiting Fellows, ensuring personalised guidance. Leeds Beckett University validates our PGCE, offering an academic qualification alongside QTS. We always aim to place trainees in schools within reasonable distance of their home and arranging introductions to main placement schools in advance, ensuring the right fit for both trainee and school. This supportive, well-connected model helps trainees thrive.

“Educate Group ITT has created a strong sense of community that trainees value… underpinned by effective communication processes that are in place across the partnership.” Ofsted, 2024

Wellbeing is a cornerstone of Educate Group ITT. Our trainees come from a diverse range of backgrounds, and we pride ourselves on being inclusive. We have a designated Leader to support trainees with disabilities and other needs.  We take steps before the programme begins to fully assess needs so that all aspects of the programme are accessible and personal requirements accommodated with regular check-ins throughout. Our aim is to remove barriers to learning so that trainees from all backgrounds can reach their potential.

“Trainees spoke highly of the wide range of support that is available to them, including for their well-being. They know that leaders will respond quickly to any concerns or questions that they may have.”
Ofsted, 2024

PGCE and QTS – What’s the Difference?

QTS stands for Qualified Teacher Status and is a required qualification to work as a teacher in maintained or special school in England and Wales. To gain your Qualified Teacher Status, you need to demonstrate that you meet the Teachers’ Standards, as set out by the government. This is assessed towards the end of your training year.

PGCE stands for Postgraduate Certificate in Education. The PGCE doesn’t qualify you to teach on its own, and it isn’t a requirement to teach in England, but it’s an extra qualification that really grounds you in the theory of education and allows you to engage with the latest research. It’s also internationally recognised, so if you ever wanted the option to teach outside England or Wales, it’s a good qualification to have alongside the QTS.

The Educate Initial Teaching Training programme enables trainees to gain a PGCE alongside QTS. The PGCE is delivered by Educate and accredited by Leeds Beckett University. This means the PGCE element is integrated into your school-based experience with the required academic rigour to complete three 2,500-word assignments. As a student of LBU you also have full access to their services, for e.g., the library and Wellbeing Team. Once you’ve completed your PGCE, you’ll gain 60 credits which can be put towards a Master’s degree (a full Master’s degree is usually made up of 180 credits).
