Supply Teaching as an ECT

Congratulations. You’re about to embark on one of the most rewarding careers you can have! At Educate Group, we have been there. We’ve made that difficult transition from student to teacher. We have been through what you are experiencing, and we want to share our advice to help you to navigate the first year as an ECT.

Your options as an ECT

When you have completed your training, it’s possible to move straight into a permanent job. There are lots of opportunities available, but it’s sometimes hard to know which type of school is best for you long-term. There’s also the option of supply teaching and this has many benefits. View our current opportunities.

The benefits of supply teaching as an ECT

Every school is different. So how do you know which environment brings out the best in you? That’s where supply teaching as an EQT comes in. Supply teaching used to be seen as a second choice for EQTs but this is no longer the case. Supply teaching is now a highly respected and essential part of the education sector. But what are the benefits to you?

Supply teaching can become your induction year. You can choose to spend the whole year in one school if you wish. But you are also able to spend each term in a different school. This gives you the opportunity to experience different environments. Work for different size schools. And enhance your CV.

After your first year, you may decide to continue with supply teaching. It’s a great option for those not wishing to commit to a permanent role and continues to enhance your experience with each term, Alternatively, should you wish to apply for a permanent teaching job, the experience you’ve gained from supply teaching as an ECT across various schools should strengthen your application.
